Ocean Front Village | Courtenay, BC Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time (1.00 FTE) Schedule: Days (8:00 – 17:00)
At Golden Life, you’ll be part of a trusted, values-driven team providing care and services to seniors in a welcoming Village setting. We’re looking for a Dietitian who is organized, practical, and focused on delivering strong clinical nutrition care while supporting quality meal service.
The Role The Dietitian is an active member of the multidisciplinary care team and works closely with nursing, recreation, and food service staff to support resident health and well-being.
This role focuses on hands-on clinical care – completing assessments, developing care plans, and monitoring outcomes – while also supporting safe, consistent, and respectful meal service. The Dietitian plays a key role in ensuring residents receive the nutrition they need in a way that maintains dignity and quality of life.
The Dietitian also provides leadership for nutrition care and long-term care meal service, supporting staff performance and accountability in collaboration with the Kitchen Manager and site leadership.
What You’ll Do
Complete nutritional assessments for all new residents prior to care conferences
Develop, implement, and maintain individualized nutrition care plans
Set nutrition goals with residents and monitor progress over time
Reassess residents’ nutritional status (quarterly, annually, and as needed)
Provide nutrition counselling to residents and families
Support chronic disease management through practical, individualized care plans
Lead dysphagia management and ensure safe swallowing practices
Ensure texture modified diets meet required standards and reflect the daily menu
Review and interpret diet orders, recommending adjustments when appropriate
Support and monitor enteral nutrition where applicable
Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences when there are nutrition concerns
Act as a resource to staff for day-to-day nutrition questions and resident needs
Provide education to staff on:
Texture modification
Safe feeding and positioning
Dining with dignity practices
Monitor food preparation and meal service to ensure:
Meals match posted menus and prescribed diets
Food is served safely and at appropriate temperatures
Resident preferences and substitutions are respected
Conduct regular meal service observations and provide practical feedback to the kitchen team
Work closely with the Kitchen Manager to support consistent, quality food service
Participate in quality improvement activities related to nutrition care and meal service
Provide input into menu planning to support nutritional adequacy and resident needs
Leadership & Team Oversight
Provides leadership and direction to food service staff supporting long-term care by setting clear expectations and reinforcing standards for meal service, texture modification, and safe food practices
Works in partnership with the Kitchen Manager to coordinate staffing, training, and day-to-day operations across long-term care and independent living dining services
Monitors staff performance related to nutrition care and meal service in long-term care, providing coaching, feedback, and follow-up as needed
Participates in staff recruitment, orientation, and training to support consistent practice and strong team performance
Supports performance management processes, including contributing to evaluations, addressing performance concerns, and participating in disciplinary processes up to and including termination in collaboration with site leadership
Provides day-to-day clinical direction to staff to ensure resident nutrition needs are met safely and consistently
What You’ll Bring
Baccalaureate degree in nutrition and dietetics. Successful completion of an accredited hospital based dietetic internship program (or equivalent acceptable to the facility).
Full licensee as a Registered Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
One year of clinical nutrition experience in a health care environment preferred.
Strong understanding of:
Dysphagia and texture modification
Chronic disease nutrition management
Meal service standards in care settings
Clear and practical communication skills
Strong organization and follow-through
Ability to work independently while collaborating with the care team
Successful clearance of a Vulnerable Sector – Criminal Record Check.
TB Screening and Immunization Record.
